CIH Waiver Overview
The CIH (Community Integration and Habilitation) Waiver is designed to provide additional support to individuals who participate in the Family Supports Waiver (FSW) but experience emergencies that the FSW does not adequately address. These emergencies may include situations such as the loss of a primary caregiver, caregivers over the age of 80, evidence of abuse or neglect, or other extraordinary health and safety risks. The CIH waiver has no annual cost cap for services, ensuring that individuals receive the support they need during critical situations.
Additional Services Available Through the CIH Waiver:
- Community Transition Services: This service covers reasonable, one-time expenses for individuals transitioning from an institutional setting to their own home in the community. This support is only available for the first move and includes the setup of necessary accommodations.
- Rent and Food for an Unrelated, Live-In Caregiver:This service provides funding to cover the cost of room and board for an unrelated, live-in caregiver who is not legally obligated to support the participant. This applies when the participant is receiving Structured Family Caregiving services.
- Residential Habilitation and Support: This service ensures the participant’s health, safety, and welfare by providing up to 24-hour support in a residential setting. It assists individuals in acquiring, improving, and maintaining skills needed to live successfully and independently in their homes.
- Structured Family Caregiving: Structured Family Caregiving provides a living arrangement where the participant lives in the private home of a principal caregiver, who may be a non-family member (foster care) or a family member who is not the participant’s spouse, parent, or legal guardian. The caregiver provides necessary support services, and only agencies can provide these services.
- Wellness Coordination: Wellness Coordination involves the development and ongoing monitoring of a participant’s Wellness Coordination plan, which includes managing the medical services necessary to address the participant’s healthcare needs. This ensures that individuals receive consistent support for their health and wellness.
The CIH Waiver offers a broad array of services to help individuals who are facing significant health and safety challenges, ensuring they continue to receive the care and support they need to live safely and independently within their communities.
